5K Author Roadmap

5K Challenge calculator

How many clients do I need to make $5,000?

Published by Book Profits Club. Last updated: November 2026.

Divide $5,000 by your price per client and round up: at $1,000 per client you need five. This calculator from Book Profits Club does that math for any goal and any price, and can estimate how many sales conversations you need from your close rate. Use it to set a realistic target before you start the 5K Challenge for authors.

How many sales does my revenue goal take?

For the 5K Challenge, 5,000.

Your offer price, or what you earn per book.

Share of conversations that become clients.

Enter your goal and price, then select Calculate to see how many sales it takes.

Assumptions

How the calculator works

The formula

Sales needed equals your revenue goal divided by your price per sale, rounded up to a whole sale. If you enter a close rate, conversations needed equals sales needed divided by that rate, also rounded up.

What it leaves out

It assumes one price, no refunds, no payment fees, and no taxes. It is an estimate, not a prediction of what you will earn. Book Profits Club does not publish average member earnings.

FAQ

Revenue goal questions

Why aim for $5,000 in client revenue instead of selling more books?
Because a few client sales can add up faster than thousands of book sales. If you earn $3 per copy, for example, $5,000 takes 1,667 book sales; with a $1,000 offer it takes five clients. These numbers are arithmetic illustrations, not earnings data, but they show why the club focuses on turning readers into clients.
How many books do I need to sell to make $100,000?
Divide $100,000 by what you earn per copy. At $3 per copy that is 33,334 books; at $5 per copy it is 20,000. Those are illustrative figures, not royalty quotes. By contrast, 20 clients at a $5,000 offer also reach $100,000, which is why Book Profits Club teaches authors to turn readers into clients.
How much does an author make on a $25 book?
It depends on your contract or platform, the format, and where the book sells. Multiply the list price by your royalty rate, or use the net amount your platform reports per sale. Check your publisher agreement or your self-publishing dashboard for the exact figure, since rates vary widely by deal and format.
Does the $5K Challenge guarantee I will earn $5,000?
No. The $5K Challenge Accelerator is a roadmap, not a guarantee. Results depend on your offer, your audience, your effort, and your sales conversations. Book Profits Club does not publish average member earnings, so treat $5,000 as a milestone to work toward rather than a promised outcome.
How long does the $5K Challenge take?
Book Profits Club does not publish a fixed timeline for the $5K Challenge Accelerator. It describes the roadmap as designed to help you rapidly acquire clients. Your pace depends on whether you already have an offer, an audience, and time for sales conversations. Ask inside the community for current details on pacing.
Do I need a big social following to get clients from my book?
No. Client revenue depends more on reaching the right readers than on follower counts. Five clients at a $1,000 offer is $5,000, an arithmetic example of why a small, engaged audience can be enough. Book Profits Club’s Lead Generation Blueprint training focuses on attracting qualified prospects without relying entirely on referrals.
